SR Live Talk Part 4: How to save a relationship, and when is it time to walk away?

Let’s face it: relationships are not always easy. Even though we have some things in common with our partners, there are things that are completely different. And sometimes these are our worst triggers.

What can we do about them? Let’s say you already reflected about the difference and understood, that it is not something that triggers you – because this would ultimately mean, you would have to do some self-reflection -, but that just does not match your values. The first advice is certainly always to talk about them with your partner. Is there a way you can work it out? Is there a way where you can meet in the middle?

For some people and some problems, this might be an easy thing to do, but ultimately, there are things, that might not be figured out. Let’s look at an obvious example: what if you want to have a monogamous relationship, but your partner wishes to live polygamous? There is no fix for this, unless one of you gives up on their ideas completely.

And here, we come back to values: you have to decide for yourself, how important this topic is for you. You might be able to live with slippers not being stored in the right place, but you might not be ok with your significant other having sex with someone else.

And this is the answer to the second question: this is the moment when it is time to walk away, as sad as it might be. Because ultimately, love is not always enough. You need matching top values as well.
