Especially this year, as Christmas and the lockdowns are coming together, singles might feel the loneliness more than ever before. For some, Christmas as such is already a difficult time, but at least in usual times, one can go out to various Christmas markets, can meet friends, go to parties or engage in different activities.
But this year, everything looks different. Most of the Christmas markets do not even open, restrictions keep you away from your friends and basically alone at home. So what to do?
You need planning. There are a pro and a con to being alone at home. First of all, you do not have to engage in Christmas activities if this is making you sad. You don’t have to see Christmas movies, you do not have to listen to songs. Nothing else than being reminded when you go for groceries. So if you choose to, you can have a Christmas without Christmas. Second – what you will not have for sure:
- stress
- fights
- discussions
- questions
- sad faces about you being single
- and much more
Remember that your single friends are still available online, so why not get them all together at least in an online meeting? You can still spread the Christmas love, you just need to be a bit creative. There is never a lack of resources but of resourcefulness. Let them know you think of them, let them know you love them. Maybe they feel alone as well.
But, what if you like Christmas? Then what about planing it just the way you wish it would be? What about getting prepared with the book that you always wanted to read, gift yourself with the present that you always wished to receive? What about baking the cookies and eating them all on your own, with a nice glass of wine? If you are worried about your weight, what about signing up for an online fitness course with a cute instructor?
If you enjoy wellness, make your home a wellness oasis. Get everything that will make you feel relaxed, comfortable, find joy in the little things. In other words: try to find something, that stimulates all your senses.
I know, nothing can replace a partner. But being sad does not change the situation in your favor. Acceptance does. So let’s get ready and prepare for the most awesome Christmas that can happen – just for yourself. Filling it with love and joy, as much as you can.
Lots of love.
